reading
When did I lose the time, energy and ambition to read?
I love to read. I love new books, new characters, new life styles, living through the words on the pages…where did that go?
While I am not sure where it went to, I know that it has returned with a full vengeance. I have to read. I hurry through other tasks and chores (or skip them entirely) so that I can read. I can’t go to sleep at night without lying in bed and reading for awhile first.
I bought a bigger purse so I can carry my kindle with me so I can read wherever I am.
It’s filled with books…I say filled, but it really isn’t. It has plenty of books in it to keep me busy for the next month or so, but not enough yet to satisfy my desirable craving to read more.
I read the Twilight saga. I am looking forward to reading Stephenie Meyer’s The Host: A Novel, but don’t have it yet. Right now, I am on book one of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
A good friend of mine, from Bookcentral, is my bookie. (seriously, check out her collection of books she’s read. She told me last night, she’s on book 60 for this year!! I’m in bookie-love!) I check out what she has read to see if it might interest me. I think I need to start a list of what I read, too, just so I can keep track.
Hmmmm….maybe she’ll add the ability for me to put check marks on her blog beside the books I have read….
Twilight
I finished the Twilight series last night.
For the first time in a very long time, I was completely satisfied at the end of the last book. I wasn’t left wanting more. I wasn’t left with questions about what will happen next. I wasn’t left with curios thoughts.
Yes, I could have read fifty more books about Edward & Bella’s life together, their *adventures*, their love for each other…but I don’t feel that I was left hanging on anything.
Stephenie Meyer is an excellent author, who can fill the satisfaction of curious minds before the curiosity creeps in at the end.
Now, I am going to go hunt for other books she has written.
thoughts
Today was a beautiful day outside. We spent all day outside in the warmth and sun. I have the farmer’s sunburn to prove it
Madd enjoyed time in his sandbox with his cousins, or as he says, “My friends, Christian and Kylie.”
We also watched my neighbors, Wayne and Mel, get their new home. Their home burned down about 5 months ago. Today, a new modular was brought in and will be set tomorrow. We walked down to talk to Mel while they hauled it in. It was a very emotional time for her, but filled with excitement at the same time of finally having a home again. I am very excited and thrilled for them also.
Summer needs to come soon. I am in desperate need to get in the garden. I have some seeds for my lettuce and green beans. I need more. I need to till up the garden. I need to rake and hoe and plant and weed and have my garden again. I am in need of fresh veggies again.
Another thought; American Idol, but not just AI, the world in general… Can I possibly vote for someone or support someone when I don’t believe in what they are about? When I don’t agree with their life styles and choices? This has been weighing on me for some time now. I came to the realizations that I can when the world will learn from or benefit from it in a positive way, but I won’t allow myself to when it can crush morals and values I hold firmly. I won’t boycott, I won’t cause a scene or fight, I will just not give my money, my votes, etc. In a way, it makes the entire world a political battlefield. In the same sense, it might be the only choice I can continue to make freely without cause. I am not a conformist. But I can be polite while I repel the ways in which I choose to not allow in.
weekend
Just a bit of some of the things we did this weekend. Not much for details right now…I’ll get to that later on. I need to write some down now so I don’t forget lol
Packed up & took off
Dropped the kids off with my mother-in-law
On the road
Checked in to find out that our cabin’s plumbing was broken, so we were given a *better* cabin for the same price
Went into The Hob Nob for lunch
A friend, Jason, from Plurk and Facebook met us for lunch. Fun times! Wish we had more time to hang out, but Jamie was tired and ready for a nap (worked 12 hrs the night before and hadn’t slept yet)
Went to our cabin
Napped for a couple of hours
Went back into town….most shops were closing (winter hours they close at 5!)
Had pizza at the Harvest Moon Pizzeria (it was great!)
Back to the cabin for a relaxing time in the hot tub before bed
Got up early-ish (for not having kids lol) on Saturday morning
Went to The Artist Colony Inn for breakfast
Walked ALL over town and went into almost every shop I think
Tasted wines, bought two bottles
More shopping
1920’s style pictures
More shopping
Espresso time
For Bare Feet time (probably my favorite store…no I am not joking. I love funky socks!)
More walking
Back to the cabin for a break
Dressed up a bit – I actually wore a dress! (WHAT??!!!?!)
Back out for dinner
Back to the cabin
More hot tub time – it was warmer out so we spent a few hours in the water before heading in for bed.
Woke up earlier on Sunday morning
Watched the sun rise – it was beautiful!
Packed up & headed out
Got a coffee at BP – it wasn’t too bad but I was really missing my aeropress
Changed our plans about going to the casino and headed to Edinburgh to the mall
After one store, we left there and headed to Greenwood to the mall
That’s where I went broke…
Lunch was at Johnny Rocket’s
After a few stores and lunch, we hit the road again
Made it back to my in-law’s house about 5
Packed the kids up and came back home
Dealt with a few meltdowns and tantrums (welcome home, Mom)
Kids were showered & into bed by 8 and now I’m ready for the same
2 days…
Yes, I am counting down the days. Soon I will be counting down the hours. This is my first time getting away with Jamie, without the kids, in 10 years! You better believe I am counting down the time.
I need to charge the batteries for the camera and the video camera. I am going to document this trip for my school website project. Nothing spectacular, just something to do, and hopefully earn more points for my project
I have the kids’ clothes packed. They are staying at Grandma’s house. (I love you, Mom-in-law!) I have a list in my head of things for me to do. . . like, ask my nephew to feed my dog for me. That might be nice.
I better go do that now since I heard the school bus just drop the kids off.
