I really don’t know much about football. I enjoy watching, but that just started last year. So laugh at my picks if they are that ridiculous, but I am going to do it anyway Jamie loves football and it’s about time we do something together…since he’s not about to become an internet junkie, or gadget geek, I might as well step up and enjoy a little football. Her entire class had to write a letter to Pres. Obama last spring. The replies were received by the school during the summer, which the kids just received from their teachers last week:

Dear Student:

Thank you for your recent note, and for sharing your thoughts with me. Your kinds words echo the message of millions of Americans who have welcomed me and my family to the White House with an outpouring of goodwill.

On January 20th, Americans spoke with one voice, choosing hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. Our Nation faces serious challenges, but we will overcome them if our imagination is joined to common purpose.

Now is our time to work together, reaffirm our enduring spirit, and choose our better history. With your help, we will renew our Nation’s promise to carry forth the great gift of freedom to future generations, as our forebears have delivered it to us.

my thoughts:

I do not impress on my kids what they can and cannot think, who they should or should not believe in. I express my values and morals in the way I raise them. Never once did I tell my kids that Obama was a bad person, should not be president, etc. They knew I was not voting for him, but when given a vote in the classrooms, my son voted for him. When asked why, he responded with, “Obama is going to help the world with recycling more and making the world a greener place. Factories won’t be able to pollute as much.”

That’s what my kid got from all of the hearsay, commercials, News, etc. That’s the understanding of a child.

THAT is not at all what Obama was saying in his letter to an even younger group of children than my son. No, of course I don’t mean that as his letter should talk about recycling. I mean that his letter did NOT speak to a group of children. It maybe spoke to teenagers, but not little kids.

Fear for a child is losing a friend, a favorite book, not getting their favorite teacher, cable TV going out, thunderstorms, bad dreams, monsters in the closet….So let’s talk to little kids about how Obama was chosen so that we will not have fear. As adults, yes, we understand what he is saying, children do not.

This letter should have been a letter that spoke to the students about education, not about politics. So, that chance was passed up and politics were preached. How are we to know if that same chance to talk about education is passed by again on Sept. 8th when he is going to speak to the students via a televised broadcast? If this letter was meant for young students, how are we to know that he will not speak the same way to students next week? This letter was completely out of vocabulary reach and understanding for a group of second graders. How will he speak to grades K-12 in a way that everyone can understand? It’s just not possible. That is my main reason for not wanting my kids to see it. Politics should not be involved in grade school education means. Let them get back to learning to write in cursive and how to work division problems. Save the political madhouse for those who could at least grasp and understand it.

I was typing up my intro for my Physical Science class and I just kept typing, just letting the words flow without even really “thinking”…I love when those moments come.

I enjoy Science as it runs hand in hand with ever-expanding technology. I need to know how things work and why they work and how it was all figured out to begin with. Until I can wrap my mind around it all, I can be quite stubborn as I try to read and see too much into things that can be quite simple. I am also the same person who argued in high school Science that there was no way that Isaac Newton was laying under an apple tree and watched an apple fall to the ground and wondered why it fell down and didn’t go up. I did say stubborn, right? I have since learned that I am just like Newton. I see something so simple that no one even thinks about differently, and I want to know why it is the way it is. Until I figure it out, I won’t let it rest.
But, I am also very strict in my morals and beliefs that Science can cross the line between what is right and wrong, and that line is a very thin line. Who’s right and wrong it is can be questioned at any given point. Most of the time it’s my standards. So, you won’t even find me cloning a sheep or growing ears off the back of a mouse.
I suspect this class will further my need to know…well, know whatever it is I feel I “knead” [sic] to know at this time. I will get my hands dirty and wring my head around the subjects and information I didn’t know I had an yearning to learn until it came to be in front of me.
My mother-in-law and uncle (in-law) were saying yesterday that I will be 50 years old and still in college just because I need to know. That is very likely. But at one point, I hope to find myself not having student loans to pay off.

I’ve been doing a lot of it. I bought my kindle in March and since then I have read 90ish books.

I’ve read the Breed series by Lora Leigh. (Not safe for children’s eyes – very sexually explicit, but a great sci-fi series of “breeds” whose dna has been fused with animal dna before being implanted inutero…) I also read a few more of her books but was not the fan of them like I was the Breed series, so I put them away and moved on to other books.

Nalini Singh has to be one of my new favorite authors. I read her Changeling-Psy series and can’t wait for the new book to be released. I also read her Angel’s Blood book and LOVED it!! I look forward to the other books in the Guild Hunter series also. Another great sci-fi series of different “races” of people. Some are Psy (psychic), some are Changelings (1/2 human, 1/2 animal and can “be” in either form), and of course humans.

I just finished up the third book of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instrument series. I loved it, could hardly put it down. Vampires, werewolves, humans, etc – yep, another sci-fi series. Jenny recommended the first book and I am ever so grateful she did! Great read!

I also recently read Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Finger Lickin’ Fifteen book, the latest in the series. I enjoyed it almost as much as the previous Plum books. This one seemed rushed at the end, but I still lauhged my butt off several times in the book.

I started Christine Feehan’s Magic Sisters series, but wasn’t too thrilled with it. They were okay, but nothing fast paced and full of thought like I am wanting. So after 2 books, I put them on the back burner for now. They will be great in-betweens when I have nothing else to read.

For now, I am on the search for something good. I read Nora Robert’s Black Hills and LOVED it, but I’m not looking for anything like that right now. I’m off to search.

One day soon I hope Meleesa kicks my butt hard enough to get me more organized in what I have read so I can keep a nice list that will never be as nice as hers.

I was out checking my garden this morning when I found a couple of radishes that had pushed up above the ground. I pulled them and took them over to Granny. I didn’t see any lights on, so I came back home. On the way, I noticed her Amaryllis had bloomed. (It’s sitting in her bay window in  her living room.)

Now, look carefully. Do you see that black thing leaning against the edge of the window frame behind this beautiful flower?

That is Granny’s gun! I’m not sure if it’s her BB gun or her pellet gun, but it still has me cracking up that I caught the truth to Granny’s life in a photo of her flower. A picture is worth a thousand words…
